Classic Corn Dogs
Ingredients
- 8 Beef hot dogs
- 8 Wooden skewers
- Flour, for dredging
- 1 cup Yellow cornmeal
- 1 cup All-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup Granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp Baking powder
- 1 tsp Kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp Paprika
- 1/4 tsp Black pepper
- 1 large Egg
- 1 cup Buttermilk
- 2 tbsp Melted butter
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Dijon Honey Mustard Dressing (KE0651), for dipping
- Golden Barbecue & Wing Sauce (SJ5051HF), for dipping
Directions
- Pat the hot dogs completely dry with paper towels. Insert a wooden skewer into each hot dog and lightly dust each hot dog with flour. This helps the batter stick.
- Make the batter by combining in a bowl and whisking together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, paprika and pepper.
- Then add the egg, buttermilk and melted butter and mix just until smooth. Do not overmix. Pour the batter into a tall drinking glass or mason jar for easier dipping.
- Heat oil to 350°F. Dip each floured hot dog into the batter until completely coated and fry turning occasionally until deep golden brown.
- Drain and serve 2–4 corn dogs in a paper-lined basket with one ramekin of Dijon Honey Mustard Dressing (KE0651) and one ramekin of Golden Barbecue & Wing Sauce (SJ5051HF).
